Concerts O.Barroca

For several years now, the Conservatory has organized a wide number of concert series, which are a marvelous complement to the student´s musical training, as well as an important contribution to the city of Salamanca´s cultural life. Especially important are those concerts in which participating students receive their first performance opportunities and thus acquire experience on the stage.

The concert series include:

• Large projects (events which feature a large number of performers, mainly students): Symphony Orchestra, Baroque Orchestra, Choir, Symphonic Band, Contemporary Music, Opera, and Jazz Workshops; Wind ensemble, “Universo Sax 2.13” and Early Music ensembles. In many cases, renowned international guest artists are invited to conduct these groups. The concerts take place not only in the Conservatory facilities, but also in different venues throughout the city (Center for the Performing Arts-CAEM, Cathedral, Convention Center, etc.) or in other cities (Madrid, León, Burgos, Ávila, Valladolid, etc.)

• Faculty Concert and Recital Series: Throughout the year, concerts are presented by faculty members, either as soloists or working together in ensembles, as well as with their own individual outside groups.

• Student Recitals: Performances are scheduled in the Conservatory Concert Hall, once or twice a week, from January to May.

• “Musical Thursdays” in the Casino: This series provides students with excellent opportunities for performing before audiences in the heart of the city, en the beautiful Figueroa Palace.

• Concert series in the Center for Brazilian Studies: The University of Salamanca, through the cited venue, collaborates with the Conservatory in the organization of monthly concerts, with live internet broadcasts from the beautiful Maldonado Palace.

• Guest Artist Concerts: Soon to be featured.

Worthy to be mentioned is the agreement signed with the Salamanca Cathedral Chapter, agreement which includes scheduling of concerts in the two magnificent Cathedral buildings. The Departments of Musicology and Composition take part in our projects providing program notes, giving lectures, transcribing scores, composing new works, etc. The Student Association also contributes to musical events with the scheduling of its Cultural Week, as well as with other activities, such as concerts organized by the Student Association Orchestra, which is an ensemble entirely directed, conducted and performed by students.
