This Opera Workshop Group was created with the ambition of scenically training the singer, developing all the areas needed: voice technique, performance, repertoire and mise-en-scène.

This cross-disciplinary approach has allows voice students to get closer to real staged performance through staging various operas, operettas and zarzuelas (Spanish Lyrical Genre).

 

Professor of Drama and Staging Antonio Díaz Zamora collaborated with the Group on its ealy days, complementing the training provided by María Ángeles Triana (Voice) and Javier San Miguel (Repertoire). Then, with the new LOGSE Curriculum in 2000, Óscar Martínez Villa (Lyric Staging) joined the teaching team.

 

During all these years the Opera Workshop Group has staged L´ELISIR D´AMORE by Gaetano Donizetti in the Auditorium of San Blas in 1997, the operetta WIENER BLUT by Johan Strauss and the Singspiel DER SCHAUSPIELDIREKTOR by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the Palacio de Congresos, in 1999 and 2000, and LA TRAVIATA by Giuseppe Verdi in the Auditorium of the Conservatorio Superior in 2002.

During the academic year 2006-2007 the Group performed the baroque opera ALCINA by Georg Friedrich Händel, the first opera workshop to feature an orchestra, in collaboration with the department of Early Music with Pilar Montoya as Musical Director.

 

Thanks to the Facultad de Bellas Artes de Salamanca (Graduate Art School of Salamanca), the Escuela de Arte Superior de Diseño, Restauration y Conservacion de Bienes Culturales de Burgos (Graduate Art School for Design and Restoration of the Cultural Assets of Burgos), the Instituto de Enseñanzas Aplicadas de Salamanca (School for applied teaching of Salamanca) and the Fundación Municipal Salamanca Ciudad de Cultura (Local Trust “Salamanca City of Culture”) we were able to open up the academic activities to the general public and to the city, performing in the Centro de las Artes Escénicas y de la Música de Salamanca (Centre for Arts and Music of Salamanca)  the comic opera DON PASQUALE by Gaetano Donizetti, with solo artists from the Vocal degree course, the Chamber Choir and the Symphonic Orchestra conducted by Javier Castro in February 2008.

 

In order to broaden its social, educational and cultural scope, the Opera Workshop Group staged LA SONNAMBULA by Vincenzo Bellini in the Centro de las Artes Escénicas y de la Música de Salamanca (Centre for Arts and Music of Salamanca)  and in the Teatro Principal de Burgos in February and March 2009, with the collaboration of the Fundación Municipal Salamanca Ciudad de Cultura (Local Trust “Salamanca City of Culture”) and the Instituto Municipal de Cultura de Burgos (Local Arts Council of Burgos).

 

In 2010 the Opera Workshop Group presented SUOR ANGELICA by Giacomo Puccini in the Auditorium of the Conservatorio Superior de Salamanca (Graduate Conservatory of Music of Salamanca) and in March 2011 staged LA FILLE DU RÉGIMENT by Gaetano Donizetti.

The Opera Workshop Group, through its performances of different works at the Lyric Theatre, is an academic project of social and cultural significance with the objective of staging performances for the city of Salamanca and the Castilla-León region.

The last performance LE NOZZE DE FIGARO by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was the tenth title staged by the Group, with the participation of current and former students of Voice and professional vocalists.
